Like a lot of people, I have spent much of lockdown working from home. I know that isn’t the case for everyone, it very much depends on the type of business and the job you do but, for a lot of people, the inside of the office is a bit of a distant memory.

Yesterday, I went in to the office for the first time in a couple of weeks and actually needed to spend some time working with other people. As much as I enjoy working from home (and I am lucky enough to have a home office), there are some significant benefits to being able to work ‘together’ at times.

For quite a lot of people going back and spending time around work colleagues will come as a much needed relief, others are going to be nervous.

With a new health secretary and more talk of restrictions coming to an end, those business that have kept their doors closed or on-site staff to a minimum, things look likely to change over the next few months. ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Mid-Anglia franchise was an obvious investment choice for Simon Taplin. The decision was inspired by a desire to work for himself but with the support of a franchisor, following many years of employment in multi-national corporations.

From the outset, Simon believed that the ServiceMaster Clean business format was well thought out, well tested, and offered a clear path to success.

Joining a growing and successful franchise meant that thorough training was provided from the outset with ongoing training and support from ServiceMaster. This made a valuable contribution to the growth and success of the business.

In 2018, Simon decided to retire from his role as Managing Director. Siva Kugathas was new to the world of commercial cleaning when he purchased a fairly small cleaning company back in January 2017. A factory had a confirmed case of Covid-19 and had to close.

The area needed to be fully sanitised in order for the employees to enter the factory and production to continue.

How we helped

Following the initial call, quotation and acceptance, our technicians were allocated the work. The technicians arrived on site and carried out the full deep clean, decontamination and wet fogging within 48 hours of the initial call.

All areas were thoroughly deep cleaned, all touch points sanitised using an EPA tested anti-viral cleaner. Finally, wet fogging with hospital grade disinfectant was carried out in of all areas to ensure any airborne particles disturbed from the cleaning process were neutralised.

After the wet fogging process, random areas were swab tested to ensure of cleanliness. Green = Clean!

Siva is owner of one of the fastest growing ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services businesses in the UK and despite the time and effort Siva puts in to providing exceptional service to his clients, he always finds time to give back to the local community and charities.

During the month of February Siva has completed a 100 mile walk/run in aid of Refuge. Not only did he achieve this, he did it whilst recovering from COVID-19. The event took place straight after Siva was ill with COVID-19, which made it far more of a challenge than planned. Despite all of the odds, Siva managed to complete the walk/run for the event. It was very tough to start with, as Siva’s fitness was very poor following the bout of COVID-19. He was forced to take breaks every half a mile, as breathing was struggle due to the effect of COVID-19 on his lungs, but Siva persevered, knowing it was for a good cause.

“I signed up to this challenge before feeling unwell but wanted to meet my commitment to Refuge. It is a vital charity and supports people when they need support the most. I am in a fortunate position and I want to support people who need help and support. I have experienced what it is like to be a refugee myself as a school age child during a war in Sri Lanka and understand the challenges of needing a safe place” said Siva.

Refuge has been running since 1971, and has led campaigns against domestic abuse. They have grown to become the country’s largest single provider of specialist domestic and gender-based violence services. Now supporting over 7,000 women and children on any given day.

Siva also added, “I am proud to have been involved with this event, and at ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Guildford we are always looking to closely work with local charities and support them in any way we can”.

A retail premises had reported a backed up soil pipe which resulted in raw sewage making its way on to the shop floor. This immediately meant that there would be significant business interruption.

How we helped

The incident happened during the day and had become a business critical peril, therefore we need to act promptly and precisely in order to get the job done.

Our technicians arrived to the site within 48 hours and worked overnight. All standing sewage water and solids were extracted using a wet vac. We then treated areas with an anti-microbial and disinfectant ensuring all the areas were sanitized thoroughly, then the floor was damp mopped.

We also used a nice smelling deodoriser a finishing touch to the clean to combat any lingering odours. To assure the client the areas was successfully disinfected, we swab tested the affected areas upon completion of cleaning. Green = Clean!

The technicians worked overnight to ensure the clean-up was completed efficiently, and more importantly so the premises could re-open in the morning.
