ServiceMaster AAA wins four prestigious awards at the International Brilliance Awards 2024.

ServiceMaster Clean AAA is kicking off 2024 with a bang.

Continuing their winning streak after winning two awards at the BFA HSBC British Franchise Awards,  being made a three-time finalist in the Customer Centricity World Series, and winning big at the UK Business Awards 2023, ServiceMaster Clean AAA has won a total of four awards at the International Brilliance Awards 2024.

About the International Brilliance Awards 2024

The International Brilliance Awards 2024 brought together industry leaders, professionals, and award-winning individuals for an evening of celebration and inspiration.

ServiceMaster Clean AAA and its owner, Siva Kugathas, won four awards categories, making this the fourth year in a row that they have won big at the event.

But what, pray tell, did they win?

The Awards Won

Entrepreneur of the Year – Brilliance Award

This marked Siva as an entrepreneur exemplifying drive, determination and exceptional abilities in creating and administering a successful business, evidenced by his proven record of leadership, ingenuity, tenacity and success.

CEO of the Year – Silver Award

As CEO of the Year, Siva consistently demonstrated clarity of vision, judgment and motivational skills to transform and empower his business.

This award recognises the ability to bring about real change for the better at a company level, in the industry as a whole and in the lives of employees.

Judges also considered entire track records, with extra attention to accomplishments since January 2017.

Having only just hit the ground running when taking over ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Guildford in January 2017, Siva has turned his single territory operation into a 14-territory empire in this time, going from strength to strength in both business and community support.

Brilliance in Customer Services – Gold Award

This award recognises businesses constantly striving to exceed customer expectations with industry-leading service standards and innovation around customer experience.

Judges also examined how ServiceMaster Clean AAA measured customer satisfaction through NPS, our TellServiceMaster system.

As well as the effectiveness of complaint handling and how customer service improves their commercial performance.

Brand Brilliance (Small to Medium) – Silver Award

The Brand Brilliance Award was selected after heavy deliberation.

The winners are the star entries encompassing the best Business Brilliance over the year.

This award demonstrates consistent growth, strong financial performance, and Brand recognition.

Judges searched for exceptional delivery, site engagement and functionality, security, innovation and ethical practice.

They also examined how staff were engaged and developed, how strategic vision is led, managed and implemented, and evidence of a plan for sustained growth.

Siva Kugathas from ServiceMaster Clean AAA has been named Leader of the Year.

Just weeks after winning two awards at the BFA HSBC British Franchise Awards and being made a three-time finalist in the Customer Centricity World Series, Siva Kugathas from ServiceMaster Clean AAA has won a prestigious leadership award.

Siva was awarded the Leader of the Year at the UK Business Awards 2023.

The UK Business Awards ’23

The awards feature 20 categories designed to capture vital aspects of business in the UK.

Siva was nominated for his employee mentorship schemes and his dedication to his team.

The GOLD Leader of the Year award was the highlight of the night and celebrates exceptional leadership as a vital component of commercial success and celebrates the leadership of an inspiring, guiding and reassuring mentor – all of which Siva is in spades!

Award judge and Training Director for First Impression Training, Marie Cross, said of Siva and his accomplishment:

“Having chatted with him at the end of the day, and having heard his back-story (what a fascinating guy!), I’d like to give an extra high-five to Siva Kugathas of ServiceMaster Clean, who won GOLD for Leader of the Year.

What a total inspiration you are Siva, especially to other young, up & coming entrepreneurs who can learn so much from your incredible story of success!”

Siva joined ServiceMaster Clean in 2017 from a background in franchise business management and has grown a single unit in Guildford with 17 staff to a 14-territory empire with over 900 employees.

ServiceMaster Clean AAA’s Employee Experience Strategy

By introducing a rewards scheme and emphasis on team building, Siva has reduced staff turnover and has recruited over 150 new employees this year.

Through the mentorship scheme, senior-level staff have achieved prestigious accountancy, bookkeeping, admin and secretarial skills, and executive leadership qualifications.

Two of these included staff who received qualifications from Oxford University.

The mentorship of Siva’s staff has seen excellent results at all levels of his business.

Staff who initially began with us as cleaners have found ServiceMaster Clean AAA a great place to work and develop.

For example, all regional managers promoted or appointed this year have progressed internally from cleaning or area supervisor roles.

Over half of Siva’s sixteen area manager positions were promoted from cleaners – evidencing the success of his ability to mentor and support staff from an entry-level role to a role with more responsibility.

This is all highly unusual in the cleaning industry, not only because, often, cleaners do not progress within a company – usually due to the lack of internal structure to support their growth – but they also tend not to stay in any one company for too long.

Siva has created a stable workplace environment where his staff are happy to come to work and stay with the business for a long time, as they know that they are valued and will be supported should they aspire to develop their skills.

Double Award Winner Siva Kugathas Wins Prestigious BFA Trailblazer & People’s Choice Award.

Siva Kugathas from ServiceMaster Clean AAA received the coveted Franchisee Trailblazer Award and the People’s Choice Award during the prestigious BFA HSBC British Franchise Awards.

Siva received the Franchisee Trailblazer Award as a recognition of his work within our brand model and for showing what is truly possible with the collaboration of a franchise business.

But there was one more surprise award on the night, the People’s Choice award, where the attendees voted from the list of winners for who they thought was deserving of this new award for 2023.

Therefore, this award truly placed Siva as the best of the best!

This unexpected award added extra excitement to an already remarkable evening, making it an event to be remembered for outstanding achievements and the collaborative spirit of those who make the industry thrive.

Judge’s Comments

Pip Wilkins, Chief Executive of the BFA, said:

Our huge congratulations to Siva, on these tremendous wins. We had some fantastic franchisee entries this year but his really stood out from the crowd. We would like to thank him for being such a great franchisee and for representing the very best in franchising.”

Judge, awards host and UK Head of Franchise, Commercial Banking at sponsors HSBC Bank, Gillian Morris said:

“The diversity of franchising on display at tonight’s awards ceremony – across so many brands and sectors – demonstrates the strength and reach of the industry. Choosing a winner is never easy and I’d like to join Pip in thanking everyone who entered and sending our warm congratulations to all the winners on these very well-deserved awards.”

Siva’s Accomplishments

Siva is the definition of a trailblazing franchisee.

His performance, growth, and transformation in 6 years have been awe-inspiring.

Turning a business with a £50,000 turnover into an empire of 14 successful territories, he has demonstrated success under the ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services model and in an industry with no ceiling.

Upon receiving his award, Siva said:

“It’s an honour to win the People’s Choice alongside the Franchisee Trailblazer Award. To receive the recognition of the judges and my peers in the franchising community is a huge validation for myself and my team, who have worked hard to help get ServiceMaster Clean AAA to where we are today.

Thank you to my team, ServiceMaster, and everyone who voted for me. And congratulations to all of my fellow winners!”

With the right attitude, ambition, and team spirit to move his focused staff behind his goal, he is on track to hit his goal of £10 million turnover by 2027.

We do not doubt that he will achieve this by following his unstoppable trajectory and utilising his close connection to the network, trust in the brand and passion for delivering a quality service.

We sat down with Stuart McCaig, the new owner of ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Bradford.

ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services in Bradford is now under new management, having been sold by the previous owner, Clive Jones, to former data analyst Stuart McCaig.

We sat down with Stuart to see how he’s been getting on with his new business and discuss his aspirations for the future.

Get to know the owner

Before joining ServiceMaster, Stuart worked as a contractor and a permanent data analyst for Lloyds Bank.

“I did a multitude of tasks, but towards the end, it was data analytics, and for my final big project, I was involved with a large-scale legal tendering process,” he says.

This background has informed his approach to decision-making and his direction.

After many years at Lloyds, he says he “wanted to be the master” of his “own path.”

So, he decided to step into something new.

After speaking with Clive and spending time in ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Bradford, Stuart decided to take it on.

He is now ready to bring his committed, methodical and driven approach to contract cleaning.

Stuart’s Customer-Centric Approach

Embarking on his new path, Stuart says his focus is supporting clients to create a better cleaning experience.

His data-driven background means he recognises how to see what is of value for business and is committed to client satisfaction.

“My goal is making sure that the customers are being serviced in the way they should be,” he says.

“If they entrust us with what is essentially quite a simple task, their cleaning needs, we will do everything to ensure these needs are met.

And if, for some reason, they’re not, we will endeavour to put that right. I’ll spend every waking hour trying to ensure the business is where it needs to be and making sure they’re happy.”

“I’ll go Above and Beyond to make sure they’re happy the service we provide is what they expect.”

Meet the new Associate Operations Director from ServiceMaster Clean West London and North Surrey.

Congratulations are in order for Aga from ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Surrey and London, who has recently been promoted to Associate Operations Director!

Aga, who is Polish, joined the company 17 years ago and quickly proved to be invaluable to the business, despite initially struggling with the language barrier.

However, she quickly learnt the language and skills necessary to become a crucial team member.

She says that business owners Lee and Rachael Downer helped help her hit the ground running, and references the commitment of the whole team to make the business a success:

“Lee and Rachael were a huge support to give me the determination and encouragement to move outside my comfort zone,” she says.

“The greater achievement [of her promotion] is because we work as a team – without that support of the office team and the wider staff, I would not be as successful.”

Behind the scenes

Aga is always busy and brings the same level of dedication and commitment to everything she does.

In her spare time, she enjoys travelling, having recently visited Rome with her daughter.

This summer, other adventures await her as she takes opportunities to explore new cultures and foods and embrace her love of cooking.

Aga says she is motivated to work on her well-being and maintain a work-life balance, as her mental and physical health is a priority.

Aga is an incredibly hard worker whose ability to wear many different hats is a testament to the diligent care and attention she gives to all she does.

Specifically, Aga volunteers in her local community at a ServiceMaster-sponsored local Polish School – teaching Polish each week.

Aga says:

“It is a community – we support each other – it’s not just cleaning, but socially, personally & professionally too.”

Congratulations, Aga, from all of us at ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services!

ServiceMaster Clean Newbury had a very successful evening recently at the ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Summer Summit, receiving two awards for growth.

At ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services, we always strive to go above and beyond in all we do, whether it’s exceeding our client’s expectations, nurturing relationships with our staff and customers or developing a thriving franchise network.

Earlier this month, we celebrated many of our franchise business owners who go above and beyond as part of our annual conference, the ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Summer Summit.

This fantastic day allowed our franchisees from across the UK to come together with staff from our head office and event sponsors from different companies to network, develop, and celebrate their businesses.

Awards for ServiceMaster Clean Newbury

To close the day, a black-tie awards evening saw various franchisees awarded for their recent achievements and contributions to our network and the cleaning industry.

Amongst the winners was ServiceMaster Clean Newbury, who last year won the coveted North Star Invest Award, and this year won multiple awards for growth in the business.

The Awards Won

These included two awards for achieving exceptional business growth milestones. The first was for growth of over £500,000 in one year, and the second was for over £1 million growth over five years.

Since becoming an EOT in 2021 and making the staff the owners, ServiceMaster Newbury has focused on growth by working hard to retain its existing clients and secure new ones whilst continuing to deliver the same high standards their clients expect and deserve.

With the employees owning the majority of shares in the company, they are incredibly motivated to go above and beyond in the services they provide for their customers.

This desire to grow and develop the business has included an emphasis on sales and a particular effort to nurture and develop staff talent in sales-oriented roles.

The business has also started to access new, high-value markets and made a particular effort to listen to customer needs. This strategy’s benefits are now paying off, as demonstrated by these two awards for growth.

Business Services Director Jane Paisley said

“If everyone is committed to delivering the best service, maintaining professional standards, and working together to achieve this, a business can develop and grow.”

“Our continued growth will provide opportunities for investment in our people, equipment, green initiatives and the wider community.”

“Winning these awards is the culmination of everyone’s hard work over the past five years. It Is wonderful to have this hard work recognised by the presentation of these two awards at the CS Summer Summit 2023.”

“We were very proud to win both these awards and share this experience with our fellow franchisees.”

Awards for ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Leicester

To close out the day – a black tie awards evening saw expectational franchisees awarded for their recent achievements and contributions to our network and the cleaning industry.

The awards won

These included two awards for business growth, which reached impressive numbers in recent years.

ServiceMaster LNP’s growth awards recognised their growth of £800,000 in 2022 and £5 million in the last two years.

Another award recipient from the Leicester team was Area Supervisor Davinder Ghattoura, who was recently featured on ITV news as part of a report about the Leicester City Football Club Active Women programme.

Davinder won both Employee’s Employee of the Year and the coveted Above and Beyond award for her contributions to the team.

General Manager Lee Redfern says:

“It makes me immensely proud when we received these awards, as it reflects just how hard everyone has worked in the business to get us to this level.”

He attributes the growth and successes of the business to,

“A mixture of having a good base template to start and train from, setting ourselves high standards, and having a Team right throughout the three areas we look after, from Sales, to Operations, our office-based staff, the Delivery Team, and ultimately our cleaners, who all want to achieve the same thing, and help the company grow, whilst providing a great service for our customers.”

“5 years on and exceeding all expectations.”

It was party… and cake time at ServiceMaster Clean North East this month.

This is because the company reached its 5th birthday.

And what a 5-years it has been!

How it all started

Chris Blewitt began trading in March 2018 after purchasing a vacant franchise territory in Durham and Teesside.

He had no staff or contracts but high expectations of building a successful commercial cleaning business from scratch.

Chris had a stretch target of building a profitable £1 million turnover in 5 years but wasn’t sure if this was realistic.

Overcoming challenges

There are naturally nerves and uncertainty with a fresh start.

With his background in operations, Chris says he wasn’t as sure of his ability as a salesman.

But following the training he received as part of a franchise and with time and practice, contracts soon started to build, and Chris realised he was more than capable.

This extended to all aspects of the business, as Chris found that his fresh start gave him a wealth of experience in all areas.

“The great thing about starting from zero is you get to experience doing every job,” he says.

“As well as doing the sales and marketing, I was the Supervisor looking after an increasing team of cleaners.”

Two years in, Chris had built a reasonable-sized business when COVID hit, and the world changed.

“The first few days after the Prime Minister’s announcement were frantic and quite scary, with nearly 50% of our customers shutting their offices,” says Chris.

In a time when other cleaning companies sought to make a fast buck through ‘fogging’ opportunities, Chris prioritised his core business by looking after existing customers and staff.

It’s a strategy that worked, as every customer returned after COVID-19.

“Within two months trading, we were back to 76% of pre-COVID levels, and the introduction of the furlough scheme gave some assurances that the business could at least tread water.”

Chris did use the time in this lull wisely as he started to look for other opportunities to grow.

Expansion

This culminated with purchasing the neighbouring ServiceMaster Clean franchise, which covers Tyneside and Wearside, at the end of his third year in business.

At this point, the trading name was changed to reflect the entire region it covers – the North East – and Chris set about merging two businesses and teams.

Two management staff came across under the TUPE transfer, which helped make running the Operations side of the business easier.

“When you take over a business, you often focus on the contracts and equipment you are getting. But my experience is that the real value is in the great people you inherit,” says Chris.

Nurturing a healthy growth culture

A vital part of building a business is the development of the culture, and Chris says he is very conscious of the values that run throughout his organisation.

“One of the most satisfying things for me is to look at how we work.”

“We are very dynamic. We treat all stakeholders respectfully, share good practices, and constantly strive to improve.”

“We do things properly and professionally and do what we say we will. Though I say it myself, I think we are very slick,” he says.

“We recently recruited a new experienced Supervisor, and although her previous cleaning company exists within the same market, she can’t believe how easy we make all activities.”

This has not happened by chance, as Chris has greatly emphasised systems and processes.

Chris’ daughter, Jessica, also now works full-time as the Business Process Manager, having always been involved in the business, even when she was at college.

“We didn’t want someone just to operate the systems but to develop them,” Chris says.

“We use market-leading time and attendance software, but what sets us apart is that we have managed to integrate it with our specialist cleaning payroll and invoicing system.”

“Others run one or both of these systems independently but struggle to put in the effort to make integration happen.”

A real success story

At the end of the fifth year, the business achieved a turnover of £1.2 million, serving over 100 loyal customers and employing over 130 staff.

Chris has also been recognised for his business success, having achieved the ServiceMaster Award of Excellence and Great British Franchisee status last year, placing him amongst the top 15 franchise business owners in the country!

With his initial stretch target convincingly beaten, Chris plans to grow the business to £2 million in the next three years.

“I am very proud of the team and what they have achieved. We have solid foundations but still a long way to go on our journey.”

Guildford entrepreneur named Service Industries Entrepreneur of the Year 2022

Guildford-based Siva Kugathas has been recognised as one of this year’s most exceptional business leaders at the Great British Entrepreneur Awards 2022 Grand Final.

Siva, the founder of ServiceMaster AAA, was named Service Industries Entrepreneur of the Year at this year’s prestigious ceremony.

About ServiceMaster AAA

Covering fourteen towns across South East England, Yorkshire and the East Midlands, ServiceMaster AAA has spent almost 6 years under Siva’s management delivering high-quality cleaning services for commercial properties.

ServiceMaster AAA provides a range of commercial clients with contract cleaning as part of the nationwide ServiceMaster Clean franchise, from offices and schools to GP surgeries and car showrooms.

The Great British Entrepreneur Awards

The programme, in partnership with Starling Bank, has recognised the UK’s most inspiring entrepreneurial success stories for a decade and developed a community-oriented network of alumni which grows year after year.

The ceremony was held at Grosvenor House in London and saw 1,400 entrepreneurs and colleagues join together to celebrate a collective £2 billion generated in turnover and over 17,000 jobs.

Siva’s Award

Siva is among 12 entrepreneurs from across the South East who went home with prizes in categories from Health & Beauty and Sustainability to Family Business and the overall Great British Entrepreneur of the Year Award, which was won by Jordan Brompton of myenergi Ltd.

Rajeeb Dey MBE, a member of the judging panel, said:

“Siva has brought a level of innovation and customer-centricity to the cleaning industry which is admirable. His own story of coming to the UK as a refugee and harnessing his entrepreneurial spirit is inspiring and I commend him for his success in scaling ServiceMaster whilst ensuring his employees and client satisfaction scores remain high.”

Though Siva was awarded, he says that is the strength of his team that helps him to be the best in business.

He said of his award, “I am delighted to win this prestigious award. I’d like to dedicate this award to my team for their hard work, which has played a huge part in the growth of the business.”

Siva and some of the team receiving his award

The 2022 Awards

Over the ten years, there have been a number of big names to receive accolades, including Alan and Juliet Barratt of Grenade, Shaun Pulfrey of Tangle Teezer and Diary of a CEO host Steven Bartlett. Many previous winners have gone on to sit on the expert judging panel for the 2022 programme.

The tenth-anniversary awards also included a brand new category – the John Caudwell Blaze Your Own Trail Award recognises organisations and individuals providing non-traditional routes into employment through apprenticeships, on-job training and work experience placements. The award was added as part of a new partnership between the programme and the Phones4U founder’s charity Caudwell Children.

Great British Entrepreneur Awards founder Francesca James said that the awards’ tenth anniversary was the biggest and best yet:

“Celebrating Britain’s ambitious, driven and inspirational entrepreneurs for a decade has been an honour, and we’ve learnt so much from hearing all of their unique stories and perspectives.

“The extraordinary circumstances of the last few years have tested the resilience of our business communities, and the challenges were enough to give many entrepreneurs an excuse to give up. Instead, our award winners did the opposite and, through ingenuity, innovation and the ability to adapt, they thrived.

“These challenges certainly haven’t gone away, and the next few years will present new obstacles to overcome – but one only needed to look around the room at our tenth anniversary to see some of the truly special founders and doers, to gain confidence that this snapshot of the economy can go on and adapt again.

“We’d like to congratulate all of our 2022 winners for all of their hard work and achievements – we look forward to following your lead into 2023 and beyond!”

Anne Boden MBE, Founder of Starling Bank, headline partner of the Awards, said:

“Entrepreneurs up and down the country across so many different industries have shown just how innovative and resilient they have been in these uncertain times. The awards are a celebration of their success – congratulations to all winners.”

Owner of ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Durham & Teesside, Chris Blewitt picked up three awards at the annual ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Award Ceremony this year, ‘Rookie of The Year’, ‘Growth Award for Turnover Greater Than £100,000′ and ‘Recommending a New Franchisee’.

The Rookie of The Year award is given to those who are new to the ServiceMaster brand and have performed to a high standard and grown successfully in their first few years of trading.

Chris won the Growth Award for having a yearly turnover greater than £100,000 for 2019. This is a fantastic result from Chris and his team to reach a turnover this high.

A brand-new award that ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services issued this year was the ‘Recommending a New Franchisee’ award, which was given to Chris because of recommended another individual, Asim Sibtain, to buy a franchise and the sale was made in August this year.

Chris Blewitt, owner of ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Durham & Teesside said;

“I am delighted to have picked up the 3 awards at the recent ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services awards ceremony. In particular, it was great for us to be awarded the ‘Rookie of the Year’ for the best new coming business. It is a credit to the hard work of our team. Starting as the first brand new franchisee in almost 10 years was a bit daunting but with a lot of hard work and the support of ServiceMaster, in less than 3 years we have built a sizeable business from scratch with significant plans for growth in 2021”.

We look forward to seeing Chris’s business grow and with his attitude and work ethic, we’re sure these won’t be the only awards he’ll receive while owning a ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services business.
