The awards feature 20 categories designed to capture vital aspects of business in the UK.

Siva was nominated for his employee mentorship schemes and his dedication to his team.

Siva joined ServiceMaster Clean in 2017 from a background in franchise business management and has grown a single unit in Guildford with 17 staff to a 14-territory empire with over 900 employees.


ServiceMaster Clean AAA’s Employee Experience Strategy

By introducing a rewards scheme and emphasis on team building, Siva has reduced staff turnover and has recruited over 150 new employees this year.

Through the mentorship scheme, senior-level staff have achieved prestigious accountancy, bookkeeping, admin and secretarial skills, and executive leadership qualifications.

Two of these included staff who received qualifications from Oxford University.

The mentorship of Siva’s staff has seen excellent results at all levels of his business.

Guildford-based entrepreneur Siva Kugathas celebrates the unveiling of his new initiative to offset his carbon emissions, the ServiceMaster Clean AAA Woodland.

At ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services, we are committed to providing cleaning services that go above and beyond the call of duty.

With climate change being a huge talking point and concern for many, we know the social responsibility that organisations and businesses have to affect positive change.

Back in April of 2023, we discussed the responsibility of businesses to help work against the looming threat of the climate crisis as we shared the excellent environmental initiatives from ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Mid-Anglia.

In that post, we shared an interesting statistic from Forbes. Although 90% of companies think sustainability is essential, only 60% have implemented a sustainability strategy.

Carbon emissions and businesses

According to the United Nations, fossil fuels and their carbon emissions are the main contributors to climate change.

With most of the carbon produced in the UK coming from our businesses, industries, and production habits, everything we, as businesses, do matters.

Especially fuel and product efficiency.

For example, according to the Harvard Business Review, by improving fuel efficiency by roughly 87% between 2005 and 2014, Walmart avoided 15,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions and saved nearly $11 million in one year.

Though this is one of the largest companies in the world, this example illustrates the scale that simple fuel efficiency can have on costs and the environment.

As such, they have undertaken several initiatives to reduce our environmental impact. Chiefly, the opening of the ServiceMaster Clean AAA Woodland.

But what is this, and why has Siva chosen to do it?

In the cleaning industry, travel by car/van is essential to ensure our cleaning equipment is transported safely to where it needs to be.

As driving is a massive contributor to carbon output, Siva’s targets for carbon offsetting are to offset the carbon his teams put out.

To do this, he has recently purchased a plot of land in Devonshire named ‘The ServiceMaster Clean AAA Woodland”.

Siva planned to plant trees for each new client his team provides services for to help put more oxygen into the atmosphere and offset carbon emissions.

However, having consulted with a local ecologist and discussed the condition of the biome, he now plans to incorporate complementary trees and plant life into the existing land and turn the area into a conservation site to preserve and nurture the woodland.

So, while he will still be planting new greenery to offset carbon emissions, he will also be working carefully to care for this patch of nature and ensure it becomes a haven for local plants and wildlife.

The Grand Opening

Last week, members from Siva’s team from across his 14 territories and members of ServiceMaster Brands UK’s head office team gathered at the woodland to officially open the land and mark the occasion with a team BBQ.

As he popped the champagne and cut the ribbon alongside ServiceMaster Brands UK Managing Director Alan Lewin, Siva detailed his plans for the land,

“The initial plan was that we were going to plant lots of Conifer trees and offset our Co2 mileage, but there is a slight change in the plan now. We will nurture and bring in the broad-leaf, add more trees and look after this land.”

He then thanked his team for all their hard work and support with his initiatives:

“Thank you all for making it here and supporting opening this land.”

“To the ServiceMaster HQ team, thank you very much for being here, and most importantly, thank you to our staff who work day in and day out to enable us to make this happen and do something good to give back to the community.”

How business success led to an overseas Christmas for ServiceMaster AAA.

2022 was a year of success for the owner of ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services AAA Siva Kugathas.

From winning and judging awards – including being crowned a Great British Entrepreneur and cleaning up at ServiceMaster Live – to taking part in multiple initiatives to support the local community, there’s been no shortage of activity for Siva and his team.

So, a trip abroad to commemorate the holidays certainly didn’t go amiss!

As part of a Christmas Conference and to celebrate all of the various successes and say thank you for all of their hard work, Siva took his senior leadership team to Antalya in Turkey last month.

The conference

When the team arrived in Turkey, it was time for a traditional dress evening full of celebration and anticipation for the conference, which Siva says created great excitement with guests at the hotel.

The next day, Siva shared 2022 results and unveiled plans & strategies for 2023.

This also involved a session on retaining and growing customers, followed by an evening Awards session, meal and drinks to celebrate and thank those who went above and beyond for ServiceMaster AAA in 2022.

The trip was tied off the next day with a full day to explore Antalya and a final evening meal, after which the team danced the night away before their flight home the next day.

The impact

Now back from Turkey, Siva says that he wanted to take his team overseas as an opportunity to bring everyone together.

With a vast territory covering many different areas in the country and staff based in separate offices nationwide, Siva says his goal with the conference was partly to bring the team together and get them working as a unit.

He says it was great to see his staff in a different environment, which enabled him to see how he can support them in a work setting and reward them for their hard work this year.

He adds that the trip was great fun and that it was lovely that everyone got to share an experience, socialise and get together, which, with such a vast team, doesn’t happen very often!

One such surgery is the Weelsby Medical Centre in Grimsby, a regular client of the Yorkshire branch of ServiceMaster Clean AAA. ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services AAA owner Siva Kugathas has taken home multiple awards from this year’s annual ServiceMaster conference – ServiceMaster Live!

The conference, which took place this May, was a gathering of franchisees from across the ServiceMaster UK brand family and culminated in an awards ceremony at the end of the day. This saw franchisees and their teams recognised for their hard work in overall customer service, sales, marketing efforts, resilience in the face of hardships, charity and community work and more.

Siva is no stranger to awards, having won multiple growth and business awards since starting his journey with ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services back in 2017. Siva purchased ServiceMaster Clean Guildford 5 years ago and saw it as an ideal opportunity to take the established business to the next level. And he certainly has, winning a string of very notable awards including for Business Person of the Year and was one of the first-ever Great British Franchisee of the Year winners back in June 2021 as well as a win from a member of his team, Kinga Derenowska, who also recently won a Global Business Excellence Award. Siva has now added to this list of accolades the ServiceMaster Marion E Wade Award for Franchisee of the Year.

The most prestigious award presented at ServiceMaster Live, franchisee of the year is the pinnacle of achievement for a franchisee in ServiceMaster Brands UK. For Guy Strang, ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Brand Leader and Marketing Manager Victoria Tayler, Siva was the obvious choice for such a coveted award. He has grown his business by a substantial amount during his time as owner, both financially and literally, adding a large number of staff members to his brilliant team and 12 additional territories since 2017. Part of what makes Siva so effective in this regard is his ability to build and maintain strong relationships, both with customers and with his staff. Kinga Derenowska of ServiceMaster AAA has been awarded ‘Outstanding Employee’ at the 2022 Global Business Excellence Awards.

Siva Kugathas, owner of ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services AAA has completed the 200 mile challenge for Run for the Trees for The National Forest

Siva completed the challenge of running 200 miles in February and was also joined by, Roxana Nae who also ran 200 miles, Joshua Damm who ran 50 miles, Kinga Derenowska who ran 50 miles and Sathya Thuraisamy who also ran 50 miles.

Run for the Trees is a fun, personal challenge event for runners and walkers alike, to keep you active as the novelty of the new year begins to wear off. this challenge can be completed anywhere and leaves a positive footprint on the planet as the more miles we cover, the more trees will be planted.

They also held a team event on 18th Feb 2022 with 18 Managers and 6 children (who were family members). They were planning on walking around 100 miles on the day as team. However; storm Eunice had other ideas and for safety reasons the walk had to be cut short and the team walked just 12 miles.

The owner of ServiceMaster AAA has been shortlisted for Leader of the Year in the 2022 European Cleaning and Hygiene Awards amongst a record number of entries.

Coming straight off the back of winning Business Person of the Year at the SME National Business Awards, Siva Kugathas of ServiceMaster Clean Contact Services AAA has been shortlisted for Leader of the Year in the 2022 European Clean and Hygiene Awards.  

The European Clean and Hygiene Awards are a pan-European event that is designed to recognise excellence within the cleaning and hygiene industry – a sector that has only become more important during the COVID-19 pandemic. Needs and demand for quality cleaning services have grown rapidly since March 2020. After the 2020 awards were postponed due to the COVID crisis, the upcoming awards will be the first to acknowledge the work of companies like ServiceMaster AAA during the pandemic. Entries for the fifth awards event opened in April 2021 and will be held this spring on 28th April 2022 at the Le Plaza Hotel in Brussels.

The awards were founded by ECJ (European Cleaning Journal and Environment Media Group) and champion a wide range of businesses in the cleaning sector. The ten different awards categories are judged by ECJ editor Michelle Marshall, industry expert Lynn Webster, EFCI president Juan Díez de los Ríos de San Juan, and industry expert Frank Veneman. To be nominated for the leadership award, entrants like Siva had to be put forward by an individual working with them within their organisation. Finalists then had to demonstrate excellent leadership skills that impact positively on their employees and business.  

Of the finalists, judge and ECJ editor Michelle Marshall said:

“We are delighted to be back for 2022 and with a record year for entries. It was an incredibly difficult job for our judges to narrow down to a shortlist but we feel our finalists really deserve recognition for their dedication and commitment to our industry over what has been a challenging few years on the frontline.

Siva’s leadership skills have seen his team through a difficult couple of years and ensured that ServiceMaster AAA remains a shining example of quality cleaning services. Siva’s contribution to the ServiceMaster Clean business can be no better exemplified by the growth he has achieved in his five years as a ServiceMaster franchisee. In total 140 people completed the challenge that was held over a full weekend and have collectively raised over £15,000 so far.
