The owners of ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Warwick, Michal Kawerski and Dariusz Kowalik have won the prestigious Rookie of the Year award at this year’s ‘ServiceMaster Live’ event.

ServiceMaster Live, which took place this May, is an annual gathering of franchisees from across the ServiceMaster UK brand family. This has been the first time the conference has been able to run since 2019 due to the limitations to public gatherings brought in to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Now finally together again, the event saw franchisees and their teams recognised for their hard work in overall customer service, sales, marketing efforts, resilience in the face of hardships, charity and community work and more, in an awards ceremony at the close of the day. It was a first-time win for Michal and Dariusz from ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Warwick, who began their business during the pandemic and amidst lockdowns in August of 2020. Despite the challenges that came with starting a business in such difficult and uncertain times, the pair were able to rise to the occasion and prove worthy winners of the ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Rookie of the Year award.

Michal & Dariusz came to ServiceMaster with previous experience of owning a commercial and domestic cleaning company. Michal has built himself from the ground up, beginning his career in the cleaning industry as a daily cleaner before becoming a supervisor. When he then began his own cleaning business, Michal was struck by how the industry was evolving. He says he witnessed the change in attitudes to cleaning due to the COVID pandemic as he saw more and more people recognise the importance of regularly cleaning and sanitising their premises. Michal and Dariusz knew they could do more, and set their sights on growing a bigger and better business. ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services AAA owner Siva Kugathas has taken home multiple awards from this year’s annual ServiceMaster conference – ServiceMaster Live!

The conference, which took place this May, was a gathering of franchisees from across the ServiceMaster UK brand family and culminated in an awards ceremony at the end of the day. This saw franchisees and their teams recognised for their hard work in overall customer service, sales, marketing efforts, resilience in the face of hardships, charity and community work and more.

Siva is no stranger to awards, having won multiple growth and business awards since starting his journey with ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services back in 2017. Siva purchased ServiceMaster Clean Guildford 5 years ago and saw it as an ideal opportunity to take the established business to the next level. And he certainly has, winning a string of very notable awards including for Business Person of the Year and was one of the first-ever Great British Franchisee of the Year winners back in June 2021 as well as a win from a member of his team, Kinga Derenowska, who also recently won a Global Business Excellence Award. Siva has now added to this list of accolades the ServiceMaster Marion E Wade Award for Franchisee of the Year.

The most prestigious award presented at ServiceMaster Live, franchisee of the year is the pinnacle of achievement for a franchisee in ServiceMaster Brands UK. For Guy Strang, ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Brand Leader and Marketing Manager Victoria Tayler, Siva was the obvious choice for such a coveted award. The owner of ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services North East is celebrating having won the prestigious Award of Excellence at ServiceMaster Live!

‘ServiceMaster Live!’, which took place this May, was a gathering of franchisees from across the ServiceMaster Ltd. brand family. Franchisees from each network came together to learn from one another and celebrate each other’s successes in an awards ceremony at the end of the day.

This included the presentation of the coveted Award of Excellence, awarded to none other than Chris Blewitt of ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services North East. This is given to a franchisee that has proven to exemplify the ServiceMaster tenet of the pursuit of excellence.

Chris has owned and managed his business for four years. He has acquired an excellent reputation among his clients for providing professional cleaning services during this time. This was initially across Durham and Teesside. However, he also developed this by expanding his territory and substantially growing his business by covering a much larger area early last year. As Chris says,

“We now cover the whole North East region.’’

Upon embarking on his journey, Chris’s focus was not only on growing his business but also on developing his workforce and creating more local jobs. Not only has he done this – as he now employs 124 people – but Chris also truly embodies the ServiceMaster ethos of going Above and Beyond by always taking time to provide help and support to other franchisees within the network.

Client Problem:

At the beginning of the Covid Pandemic the customer had parted ways with their cleaning contractor. When the team were looking to go back to Office working, they required a reliable, efficient & local cleaning company. Initially the client invited 3 companies to quote.

How we helped

We met with the client the same day to carry out a survey and discuss the clients needs.

Along with daily office cleaning, they required a deep clean of all areas, as the Office had been closed for over 12 months, this also included a full carpet clean.

We supplied a quotation the following day for all services.

The client swiftly accepted our quotation. One of the main reasons being we are a local company, with good references.

We then mobilised our team – carrying out the deep clean, and carpet clean prior to the contract going live.

Our services along the side of the regular schedule, includes a daily clean of all high touch points and we have also carried out an infection control clean for the client after a staff member tested positive for Covid.

Our Field Service Supervisor carries out regular site visits, along with a monthly Service Review with the client either face to face or via teams – depending on requirements

6 months in the client is happy and will be looking to increase our services further when their second Office re-opens in 2022

The Marion E Wade Award (Franchisee of the Year) is the most prestigious award ServiceMaster presents and is the pinnacle of achievement for a franchise within the company.

The award was given to Kevin this year as him and his team displayed the highest achievement in pursuit of excellence and professional management in the ServiceMaster tradition.

Kevin has been trading as ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Mercia since November 2008 and has grown to become a multi-million-pound business in that time, purchasing new local territories along the way.

The business cleans over 140 offices, medical centres, schools and warehouses across the East and West Midlands and employs over 300 cleaning staff to complete these regular jobs.

Owner of ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Durham & Teesside, Chris Blewitt picked up three awards at the annual ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services Award Ceremony this year, ‘Rookie of The Year’, ‘Growth Award for Turnover Greater Than £100,000′ and ‘Recommending a New Franchisee’.

The Rookie of The Year award is given to those who are new to the ServiceMaster brand and have performed to a high standard and grown successfully in their first few years of trading.

Chris won the Growth Award for having a yearly turnover greater than £100,000 for 2019. This is a fantastic result from Chris and his team to reach a turnover this high.

A brand-new award that ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services issued this year was the ‘Recommending a New Franchisee’ award, which was given to Chris because of recommended another individual, Asim Sibtain, to buy a franchise and the sale was made in August this year.

A veteran in the franchising industry, our very own, Siva Kugathas has been shortlisted in the Transformation category at the bfa HSBC British Franchise Awards, taking place at the Vox, Birmingham, on November 30.

Siva, who before taking over the ServiceMaster Guildford franchise in January 2017, had already had a career in franchising for over 20 years with both KFC and Pizza Hut, used all that knowledge to transform the business, with turnover now 10 times that of when he first took on the resale.

He chose ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services, a contract commercial cleaning specialist franchise as he believed the potential for growth was evident.

“I am always looking for different and unusual ways to promote my business. In 2017 I featured on Eagle Radio in a carpet cleaning video for “National Clean Your Floors Day.”

Yes, that’s right, a video for radio. It was posted across the radio stations social media platforms and had great results. From this short video, I was noticed by a local company and secured a contract worth £100,000. It’s so exciting when trying something new has such a positive impact on your business.

I already feel incredibly proud to be recognised as a finalist in the BFA Awards. To me, they are the pinnacle of franchise industry awards and winning would be the ultimate achievement. I always strive to be the best in what I do and a BFA award would be a validation of this.” Siva Kugathas, Franchisee.

“In little more than three years, Siva has taken an existing franchise unit and increased its turnover tenfold. This is a fantastic achievement and it has also benefitted people in the community as he has gone from hiring one supervisor to one office manager, one operations manager, three area managers, one sales executive and seven mobile cleaners.”

Just over 3 years ago YMCA Guildford was registered as a welcome centre for Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children (UASC). Due to local authority cuts the welcome centre service was cut. However YMCA Guildford were determined to maintain their services and put to use the expertise developed in that time to support newly arrived UASC within a supported housing environment.

The award they have been nominated for is the Diversity Award 2019

Kinga started as an office admin worker and her main responsibility was doing Payroll and Accounts. She was not responsible for recruitment or any other operational duties. However, she saw that I needed help and took it upon herself to help during her own spare time.

“We grew from 17 employees on payroll when I took over the business to 79 in just 11 months and Kinga has always been on hand wherever needed in the business. I truly believe CS Guildford wouldn’t have grown this much so soon, without the commitment and help from Kinga” Finished Siva

Picking up one award is an achievement, but to collect three in the first year of business is outstanding.

ServiceMaster Clean Contract Services of Guildford have gone from strength to strength in the last 23 months, growing by 500k. The Managing Director, Siva Kugathas has awarded some of his staff for their hard work in accordance with the company’s success.

Siva decided to have an awards evening on 30th November 2018 and hosted it in The Shard, Central London. All that made an appearance, including brand manager Guy Strang, said how enjoyable the evening was.

Recognising some of the less obvious, but nonetheless culturally vital parts of franchising is imperative to ServiceMaster and the Summer Summit conference allowed this to happen.

Awards were given for not only growth, but also to those that have given back to their community, or employees of franchisees that have demonstrated their commitment to the brand attributes engaging in initiatives and actions with colleagues and customers well beyond their job description, very often in their own time at their own expense.
